  • BBC News | AMERICAS | World shock at US attacks

Lest we forget that we are not alone, and the whole world is not our enemy.

Among other, France, Italy, China, Russia and the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, have expressed shock, sympathy and support.

These are the people we need to work with against terrorism. Over 90 other countries had missions in the World Trade Center. The people who launched this attack are enemies of the world, not just enemies of the U.S.

One of the women in our writing group here in Seattle was in an elevator earlier today with a Middle-Eastern man. he looked at her sadly and said, “I am so very very sorry for what happened to your country today.” “Thank you,” she said. “I know you aren’t one of the people responsible for this. But thank you.”

I have been very disturbed by some people talking about bombing the hell out of whole countries, shooting all Moslems, etcetera.

Fear creates anger, anger can make us irrational. But listening to our feelings doesn’t mean we have to do everything they say. We’re humans. We have brains, too. Blaming all Moslems, all Arabs, all foreigners, all anyone for today’s tragedies isn’t accomplishing anything.

Terrorists are enemies of humanity — enemies of Moslems, Jews, Christians, Americans, Europeans, Africans, everyone. We need to unite with the rest of the world in rooting out this menace to us all, and ending it firmly. For too long, turf disputes and the advantages of having a threat to unite the taxpayers against have prevented a concerted effort against terrorism. For God’s sake, end it now.

We must create peace. We no longer have the option of hoping for peace.

  • let’s hope this incident wakes up the world and makes us relise we need not to begin war but to start peace

  • right on peke. and anitra.

  • Ditto what you wrote! Take care.

  • Yes, we have many powerful allies.  That was what my daughter asked most about… “France?  Is France our friend?”

    Thank goodness they are.

  • i totally agree with you.

  • Amen to that!

  • I came here initially because of what you commented on Lyssa’s blog.

I admit I came here angry with the intention of leaving a comment that would cut you to ribbons. I now see that you DO feel the horror of the acts of September 11th.

I don’t think the majority of Americans wish to see the innocent harmed…that is what happened at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon after all. We DO wish to see the countries that provide safe haven for known terrorists end that practice.

As long as terrorists have somewhere to go to hide, someone, be it the United States or countries the terrorists attack, will seek them out.

If you wish to see innocent people avoid injury, you should pray for the quick exposure of all of the masterminds of this vicious crime against humanity and their swift trial and execution.

  • I do so pray, GBrady. But there is more that we as individuals can do than pray.

We can speak up for the discounted voices in the intelligence community who have been advising our govenrment about this danger and asking for support against it for years, and have been shackled and ignored. We can insist that these be the people in charge of our final assault on terrorism around the world.

We can speak up against attack on the innocent, both here and abroad. Spend your lunch hour in front of a mosque. I’m going to.

And do not forget to care for our people in pain.
